With support from the Dreyfus Foundation, we are happy to
announce the launch of Year 1 of a two-year program designed to provide
enrichment in geochemistry for high school chemistry teachers. The program will consist of academic
year workshops (~ 5 per year, planned for Fridays) and include classroom
support from a UNH-based graduate student in geochemistry. In addition to support of a graduate
student in the classroom for GEOChem related projects during the academic year,
teachers will be provided with a stipend for participation in the program.
Tentative workshop topics and dates:
1. Inquiry –
5 October 2012
2. EarthÕs
Carbon Cycle – 16 November 2012
3. Applied
Geochemistry – examples from Agriculture – 14 December 2012
4. Geochemical
Cycles, Earth Materials, and Weathering - 22 March 2013
5. Environmental
Geochemistry – 3 May 2013
We strongly
encourage GEOChem teachers to participate in UNHÕs TESSE summer workshop
program for a grounding in Earth System Science. GEOChem teachers who participate in TESSE will be
excused from one of the workshops.
TESSE Summer 2012 program runs 16 to 27 July. Application
