The Bighorn Basin preserves an unusually complete stratigraphic record of early Paleogene time (~65-50 Ma). The Bighorn Basin Coring Project (BBCP) aims to drill a series of cores in the basin to better document the interplay between climatic, biotic, and geologic change during this period of global greenhouse conditions.

Phase I of the BBCP was a NSF supported workshop that took place in Powell, Wyoming from June 24 - June 27, 2007. The workshop determined the scientific, administrative, and logistic framework of the BBCP. We are currently drafting a formal drilling prospectus. See the links at the left for details on the workshop.
