The goal of The Dynamic Earth is to introduce students to the exploration and understanding of the Earth around us. The state of New Hampshire provides an ideal learning envoronment for geological research. Evidence of mountain-building, igneous activity, and glaciations are preserved within driving distance of campus. This course includes study of the materials (rocks and minerals) that make up the Earth, the landforms that we can observe at the surface of the Earth today (faults folds, drumlins, etc.) and the processes that form them (volcanism, earthquakes, glaciation, etc.). Core principles discussed in lecture are augmented by hands on laboratory exercises, and several field trips to observe concepts in the geology of seacoast New England. |
